I have been making Vcds using Tmpgenc and Goldwave for the audio for about 2 years and am about to graduate to Dvds.
I have been searching the guides and am looking for an opinion on the best way to deal with audio on dvds. I use Goldwave for wave audio to maximize the volume. Is there a procedure that will allow audio editing and result in audio and video being separate on the Dvd? Is it necessary to keep them separate?
    I'm open to any suggestions.
    Thanks

I don't quite "get" what you mean by this. Do you mean keeping them as Elementary Streams ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

A & V can be separate all the way until you have a finished DVD. In fact, unlike VCD/SVCD authoring apps, DVD authoring apps mostly wants separate audio and video streams. They get multiplexed into VOBs as part of the authoring stage.

I'm going to rephrase my question.
I've been using goldwave to improve the audio on vcd's (resample, increase volume, remove pop and click) and saving it as a wave file. Is there a tool or method that will allow me to improve (edit) ac3 and keep it as ac3 on the dvd?
    Thanks

No. AC3 has to be decoded to wav to be edited (like all compressed formats 99.99% of the times)

    Thanks for the info.
It helps narrow my search through the guides.
