but my main concern is removing those ridiculous previews and trailers at the beginning of the dvd disc.
i dont want the screen black and blank either. i would like after loading for the dvd to go to the main menu.

sorry i wasn't clear.
i want to burn the movie AND the MENU without anything else. especially not the previews that automatically play when the movie is loaded into the dvd player.
my problem is if i remove those trailer .VOB files and replace them with empty .VOB files, the screen is blank and black instead of going straight to the menu.
how can i do this right? -
Reemas,
Get a copy of MyDVDEdit from http://www.editorsbin.com/mydvdedit/
Start the program.
Load the VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD you want to "fix".
You should see "ALL PGC" and "FIRST PLAY" highlighted at the top left.
Now look at the center of the screen where "Pre cmds" is highlighted.
Below that is a list of commands.
The last command always has the word "Jump" in it.
Edit that command by clicking the little triangle next to it.
Set the new command to say JUMP TITLE 1
Save.
You're done.
Note #1: The above instructions will make the DVD go directly to the main feature (the movie) when you insert the disc into a DVD player. Just click the Menu button on your remote to see the menus when the movie starts.
Why would you want the DVD to go directly to the menus? When you insert a DVD into your player, usually you do this because you want to watch the movie, not because you want to see menus.
If you want the DVD to jump directly to the menu and not the movie, that is more complicated and it's different for every DVD.
Note #2: Some DVDs, especially PIXAR-DISNEY DVDs, do not start at TITLE 1. For those, you will have to click the "Titles" tab on MyDVDEdit and look for the longest title, and JUMP to that one. Or you can play the DVD in a DVD player and look at the DVD player display to see what Title the movie starts with. -
thanks a lot for that excellent post. im trying it while i type this. i do prefer to go to the menu though, because i usually watch dvds over and over and like to select certain scenes. is there a quick tip you can give me on pointing them to the menus?
