I've tried multiple video programs to convert. Right now I'm using Nero Vision 2. I have a Memorex Dual Layer 16x DVD-RW and I burn the DVD's at 4x speed. During playback though, the frames freeze and skip randomly. I don't know how to fix this. Anyone have any suggestions?

Random suggestions as I have little to go on

    1. Media - either quality or compatability with your player
    2. Nero
    3. Nero
    4. Nero
    5. Try using something else to do the conversion to make sure Nero isn't at fault. (PS - don't burn it with Nero either)

Alright. I'll try burning with something else. I guess Nero is really that bad? ;P
EDIT: I also mean converting with something else too.

I suspect it is Nero's conversion or media as the primary problem.

All-in-ones are not the best for DivX/XviD etc conversions IMO. There's just too many things like AC3 or VBR MP3 audio, not to mention weird resolutions, framerates etc, that it is no wonder to me that some of these programs struggle to give you the results you desire.

I'm from the school that preaches a "horses for courses" approach, in that you analyse what you have, and then depending on what you have, you undertake the steps required for those particulars, as opposed to just "blindly" dropping each and every file into some 'one-click miracle app' and expect it to handle it.

Your problem does sound like either crap media and/or crap burn and/or your player doesn't like that media and/or the conversion process fooked up somehow.

Do the symptoms cease if you play it on your PC ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I agree with the h4c approach, but I can also see how daunting that can be for many new users. It is also rare that a best practice solution can work as fast as something like DivxtoDVD (a 90 minute avi in under an hour). Granted, DivxtoDVD and it's ilk cannot touch a proper solution for quality of result.

What is needed is something as simple as DVD Rebuilder, that writes and executes avs files through CCE or similar and gives you a DVD. Most of the GUI front ends to tie all the tools together end up more complicated than just learning the individual steps.

See, that's the weird thing. When I use DVD Shrink to copy a DVD to my HDD and then burn it with Nero, it works just fine. But I haven't tried playing a file I converted using Nero Vision 2 on my computer.
EDIT: I'm starting on my new spindle now, different kind of DVDs. Now using Memorex 8x DVD-R's.
