Hello,
I have a Pioneer 108, and have recently purchased some TY 16x -R's. Up to this point, I have used TY 8x with no problems, but noticed in the 108 manual that it can burn at 16x. Questions:
1. I have read some posts that state maybe you shouldn't burn at such a high speed. Is that the opinion out there? If I use 16x, will there be more possible problems for certain set-top players? The copies I make will go out to customers that will play on all types of players, so I want the best chance for no issues.
2. If I use a dvd duplicator that burns max at 8x, and use the 16x blanks, will this be a problem? Should I just choose the "Max" burning speed option, or should I lower to the 8x choice?
3. I have also read where I should verify my burns. Is that done with some software? If so, can you please direct me to what I should use. I have a big project (more than 100 duplications) coming up, and I would like to make sure the master DVD is good before the mass duplication.
Thanks for the help.

I've burned several on my 109 now at 16x with zero playback issues. However you should be aware that 16x media uses a different write method. It's called CAV and I know the 109 has issues with burning it correctly, even with the latest firmware. I also have an NEC3520A which seems to burn CAV media fine under the exact same setup. I recommend using Nero to burn as it uses it's own ASPI layer which seems to work better with CAV Media. DVD Decrypter gives me frequent problems with it.

i also have the nec 3520 with latest firmware 3.04 and some taiyo yuden ty03 16x i use nero recode and on every burn it freezes at the beginning for about 3 sec then plays all the way through without problems,, tried slowing the burn down to 12x and same problem, however when slowed down to 8x it burns perfect, which is weird cause my ty02's burn perfect at 12x everytime
