    Hi all,

the subject seems to be the "good old problem" but in fact i beleive its something different.

    Let me explain:
I got some chinese DVDs which contain several videos, encoded as352x288.
If i play these DVDs on my Cyberhome DVD Player, they show up only in the upper half of the screen.

So I re-encoded the VOBs with TMPGEnc to 720x576 and used TMPGEnc DVD-Author to make DVD-structure on HD.

Burining this with NERO produces discs which my standlaone player does not recognize ("no disc"). Same thing, if I use DVDShrink/DVD Decryptor on these files. Burned DVDs (EMTEC DVD+R) are not recognised in standalone but play well on my computer.
I already copied other DVDs to these EMTEC DVDs and never had problems.

When I just copy the whole disc, without re-encoding the VOBs the copy plays fine - but only in the upper hals of the TV-screen.

So, if anyone has a good idea how I get these DVDs playing fullscreen I really be glad !

    Regards, Delta

I would say most people will ignore this post because it sounds like a disc issue.

Sounds like you are having multiple issues. First, you don't state your location, but Chinese dvd's are PAL format. They should play fine on your pc, but if you are in the US, you will need a dvd player than can read PAL discs.

The dvd that plays in your pc but not on your standalone, sounds like it is authored wrong.

I would do the conversion again (there is really no need to change the resolution of the files) and author the disc, but just make an image...don't burn. You can then mount the image and verify if it is playable before burning. If it plays on the pc, then burn the image and see what happens.

    Hi Krispy,

thanks for your reply. Now I added my location to my profile ...
The only reason, why I did the re-authoring, was because the content of the DVDs (except the main menu) filled the upper half of my TV-screen.
I also already made tests with images, as you said.
But I found the solution by chance (although I don't understand the reason):
After burning the files as well as an ISO-image one time with DVD-Decrypter and Nero, I checked the burining options in Nero and found the "DVD High Compatibility Mode" selected. Deselecting this option results in DVDs which play fine in my standalone player too.
Though I don't know why, because I always thought the higher the compatibility the better. (Above all the DVDs burned with High Compatibility Mode played well on my PC and in my friends standalone player too)

    Regards,

High compatibility mode only works on +R's. It changes the bit set to make the disc appear as a DVDROM (pressed disc) and not a +R disc. This often will allow standalone players that have problems with +R media to read the disc.

    Glad you got it working.
