Hi
From my minidv i have captured to ulead studio 9. I then create dvd ntsc 4x3, imported into tmpenc to edit and burn. Put it into my Malata DVD player (plays both PAL and NTSC) and worked flawlessly.
Now I want to convert to PAL using Procoder. Using the dvd mpeg file created from studio 9 i converted it to pal using procoder ( I dont play with any settings). I then open tmpenc to edit and burn. When I insert the dvd it automatically plays the dvd and pauses (crashes?) 30 sec in to the scene. Also when I select another scene from chapter, I hear the dvd spin and then nothing show up, just remains in the menu
Can I get any help as to why in Pal it would do that and Ntsc it works?
Thanks
Mike

Hi retos,
Welcome to the forums.
Why do you want to convert it PAL? I ask because you may not need to...
Nowadays, the vast majority of TVs and players in PAL regions can also play NTSC - meaning there's no need to convert to PAL from NTSC. This has been the case for a while now...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Thanks for your response
I will take it to Spain for family members to watch. They will most likely not have ntsc compatible tv, dvd.
Just wondering if it could be tmpenc, not sure if its compatible with pal. I followed the same procedure making the ntsc but omitting procoder. I also encoded to pal a few times to make sure it was working.
Thanks again

make sure you update to the latest PC2 (just recently out)
but otherwise - it does a really great job at conversions .. but you should use the source files instead of using the already encoded mpeg file"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Hi again
I looked at the settings and not quite sure what the difference between constant and variable bit rate will do on a stand alone dvd player (cq, cbr, vbr).
Can all dvd players play vbr?
Also is it better to play pcm sound or mpeg layer 2? Do all dvd players have these codecs
I am now using the avi file and going to try it!
Thanks

I'm wondering too. I have some footage from one of our installations in Europe that was shot in PAL. I don't have the original footage since it's in a vault, all I have is the MPEG2 from a DVD. When I try to conver it, it says it's going to take 37 hours. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to figure it out.

looks very very good in fact -- for interlaced source - reverse the field order on the output for better quality ..
