  1. I have a toddler who must watch Thomas the Train videos before going to bed. I have made backups of my originals since I have learned my lesson that DVDs are not indestructable. I'm bringing my laptop also. Will I have problems bringing "copied/backups" of my DVDs? I don't plan to bring the covers. I'm going to put it in a cd wallet with other DVDs. I don't want them confiscated nor be thought of a thief or an illegal distributer.

    Thanks

Hard to say. Depends on what the custom guys are like at the airport. Most likely, you can get away with it.

Depending on the number of dvds you plan to take, an alternative can be to save them to your laptop hard drive (if disk space permits).

I'm not an expert on US/Mexican customs so this is not an expert opinion...
I doubt very much that with half a dozen kids DVD's you will run in to too much trouble - that’s not to say they wont be confiscated, just that this is the limit of the punishment you would receive.
If you can't take the risk of not having a single DVD why not take 1 original as well as the back ups? At least you'll still have this.
I've been in exactly the same situation with my little one (but with Scooby Doo). I appreciate that it's not a fair comparison but on UK/European boarder crossing there is no consistency . Once disks were confiscated, but more often than not they don't care with a couple of kids movies.
As I said just an opinion, not gospel but hope it's some help

If you're truly worried about confiscation, make an additional set of copies and don't label them with anything meaningful. Label the disks with #1, #2, etc.

If asked, they are data disks from your workplace.
