    I've bought a series of DVDs on Law (4,7 GB each - I think it's not a standard professional recording since the media is single layer). Well, I've made a backup of all of them, except one that as soon as it is inserted in the driver, it changes its name for a common CD driver saying there's no disc. I've installed the last version of DVD HD Fab Decrypter but it hasn't worked either. I'd like to know if you have any hints on how to fix this. Thanks in advance;

What are you burning with? What are the contents of the so-called bad disc? check with explorer.. Do disks have protection?if not ,no need to use DVDFab HD Decrypter, just burn them using IMGBurn.....
See if you can open in DVD shrink and back it up..... just a few things to try.....
Also DVDFab HD only backs up to DL (8.5 G disc) you'll need DVDFab Platinum/Gold for 4.7 backups...

It sounds like a corrupted disc. Assuming the surface isn't scratched, you might try a recovery program like dvdisaster or ISO Buster. A settop DVD player can play the same disc that a computer spits out. A computer needs a 100% error free file, while a player can skip over errors.

Is there an Autorun file on that disk?

First of all, thanks to all who took time to respond

    To t0nee1:
I'm burning with DVDArchitect, it works OK here. The contents? Impossible to "see" what it is. Anyway, it works on regular DVD players (works nice with my Sony) but definitely not on computers. Protection? No, the discs have no protectin, but this one... hmmmmm.... that's so weird. It doesn't work with DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, etc. Anyway thanks so much for the hints on the software.

    To redwudz:
Well, it's not corrupted since it works with regular DVD players as I have stated right above. Thank you very much fella on dvdisaster (lol lol lol - I didn't know anything about this one) and ISO Buster (anyway I still don't know how to burn a DVD from ISO IFO or whatever lol lol).

A settop DVD player can play the same disc that a computer spits out. A computer needs a 100% error free file, while a player can skip over errors.
Thanks again for the input, redwudz.

    To SLK001:
Is there an Autorun file on that disk?
Well, I guess it's difficult to answer that. How can I find out since my PC refuses to run that disc? There must be something on that single layer that "lies" to the DVD driver that it is a CD driver and that there's no disc there. Very intelligent the one who thought this kind of protection. Or.. it could be an error as redwudz have stated.

    Thanks to all
    Cheers,

PS: I have to do a paper for next Thursday morning. Then we can continue to discuss this

Well then as rewudz stated "A set top DVD player can play the same disc that a computer spits out......it could be a scratched disc since it plays well on standalone player..check it carefully for scratches, smudge, fingerprints etc....you never know!...

Yes, it could be a scratched disc, but it's not. It's a brand new DVD. I still don't know what to do. Tomorrow I'll finish some work around here and then we can discuss more about this problem.
    Thanks in advance,

More likely it's just a poorly created or possibly poorly burned disc. Or it could be related to the media used. If you can get the data extracted, you may be able to fix it and back it up.

Good idea, redwudz. The problem is how to make my PC "read" the data.

Try it in a different DVD burner.

It's possible that you could run the output line of the DVD Player that does play it to the input line of another standalone DVD Recorder ... as you might do with a VHS Tape that you want to record to DVD. Of course you would connect your recorder to the TV so you could see what's going on and when to hit the "record" button.
