  1. What should the "Burn Buffer" stay at?

Mine always stays between 95 and 98%. Is this bad?

I have a few Drives and they all do this.Just not sure if its good or bad.

Right now I have no problems with the drive's or the DVD's that they burn.

    Just curious...

    Thanks

Actually, I don't think the burn buffer has anything to do with the heat of the laser. The buffer holds the data that the burner is writing to the disk. 95-98% means that your computer is feeding the buffer fast enough to keep up with the burner as it removes data from the buffer. This is good.

gatgetguy is correct, it's how full the burner's memory is when it comes to transferring data from PC to the disk being burned. But it's mostly moot point as just about every burner these day comes with a form of burn protection to prevent coaster due to slow data rate. If the computer gets a bit constipated for some reason, modern burner can safely stop in mid burn and wait until data starts flowing again.

I remember when 4x CD burner was really fast and the one I had didn't have any burn protection. If my PC does anything, even hiccups that interrupt the flow of data and the buffer hits zero, poof you got coaster. Back then buffer were tiny.

  5. I have a NEC 3520a and whenever I use Decrypter to backup the buffers always fluctuation half way into the burn from 98% all the way down to 0%. I tried different settings, but it is the same thing. Can someone give me any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanx in advance.

  7. hi,
my DVR-108 does the same thing buffer (both device and decrypter buffer) fluctuates from 98% to 0% in decrypter, usually happens during burn speed steps up...but as dap pointed out if aint broke why fix it, i always get good burns from my DVR.

PS:New version of Decrypter does this, if I use the old version buffer usage fluctuates from 98-99%.
