  1. Hi,

I would like to ask ,
does graphic cards have any speed effect on encoding videos?
like encoding with ulead dvd workshop or dvd shrink lets say if you have a good fast graphic card , does it help speed up the encodin?

I'm asking this because i have an old ati rage fury pro , and i want to by ati radeon 9600 pro , will I get more performance out of it?

    thank you.

Basic 2D features are all you need from a graphics card. If you can see the menu and it supports overlay, you have all you need.

Agreed. I've actually ran an encode with integrated graphics and a video card I had laying around. No difference whatsoever.

you don't even need a graphics card at all - as in many rendering systems ..

BUT -- there are a few now rendering programs that DO USE the power of the graphics card also -- nvidia has a render engine that works with MAYA (and others) for example ..
