  1. Hello,

I have 2 1/2 hours of footage I'd like to put on a standard 4.7 GB DVD. How can I calculate what bitrate to use when converting the footage to MPEG2? I will only have 1 menu on the DVD - so I can use just about all the space for video.

    Thanks

Well, let's see. How many seconds are in 2 1/2 hours? Then, how much space do you have to put the video in (in true megabits)? If you have this (the "seconds" and the "megabits") then I think that we can get the megabits per seconds that you are looking for, but exactly how is escaping me.

  3. I have 2 hours and 33 Minutes of video.

I've used the VideoHelp Bitrate Calculator.

    Here are my results:

    Calculated Bitrate: 3757 kbit/s
    DVD Max Bitrate: 9570 kbit/s

Now in my encoding software I have the options to change:

    Minimum Bitrate [Mbps] :
    Target Bitrate [Mbps] :
    Maximum Bitrate [Mbps] :

How can I calculate the results into these options...?

    Thanks...

  4. Minimum Bitrate [Mbps] : your choice (should be less than target bitrate)
Target Bitrate [Mbps] : = Calculated Bitrate from the calculator
Maximum Bitrate [Mbps] : = DVD Max Bitrate from the calculator

so in your example you may use those settings:

    Minimum Bitrate [Mbps] : 2000 kbit/s
    Target Bitrate [Mbps] : 3757 kbit/s
    Maximum Bitrate [Mbps] : 9570 kbit/s
