    Hey!
Just bought a new burner, a LiteON 1633s with firmware "BRS6". Cant find any reference to such a firmware anywhere, but its datecode is 2004-11-03 17:19, which is newer than the FW Bs41, which as I understood it upgrades the burner to a 1653? Can anyone help me understand this jungle?

Which is the better FW to have, my BRS6 or the 1653-wannabe BS41?

    /Zech

  2. Could you dump the BRS6 firmware and send it to either dhc014 or me (or both )?
    Dumping tool: http://dhc014.rpc1.org/howto.htm#LtnFW

Did you buy this drive brand new in a retail package? Or did you get this drive second-hand? Usually, these "strange" firmwares are actually firmwares given to computer manufacturers who use LiteOn drives. For example, LiteOn drives that come with Dell computers usually have are in the format of xDSx instead of the usual xS0x. "R" could just be the code for one of LiteOn's OEM customers.

could you maybe also tell me if i can use this FW on my burner? "1653S.CS0P.patched-cf-ledfix"

Is that FW and bs41 identical, i.e it makes the 1633s become a 1653, or am i out in the blue totally? Should i use the CSOP FW rather than the bs41?

P.S have had pioneer up until now, so this is totally unknown waters for me...

CSOP is ok, i stuck with csom because thats the one before csop and there hasnt been that much imporvement on the media i use and csom allows for strat changes and not just speed increases like csop is only capable of

  6. Thanks. Got the firmware. I'd take either CS0M or CS0P. BS41 is pretty old (it's from 2004!)

If you're into modifying your firmware and want to do -R strat reassignments, you'll need CS0M. If you only do +R reassignments (with OPv2) or don't care for modifying your firmware, CS0P will probably be the better choice.

    thanx for your help!

Is the FW i got old/bad?

  8. Old? Yes. It's dated November 3 of 2004. Bad? No. It was simply a firmware made for LiteOn drives that come pre-installed in Acer computers.
