I have a problem... need some advice... is there any easy way to rearrange DVD menus and reauthor DVDs?

Situation: my DVD recorder (GoVideo / Sensory Science SR674) only burns DVD+R or DVD+RW and my Mac only reads DVD-R. I copy video from TiVo to DVD via SR674 recorder... Then, I've been using Nero to copy those DVDs to the hard drive on my PC, then burn onto DVD-R for playing on the Mac. So far, that works A-OK, it's very easy and dead simple!

Nero works OK for making the DVD+R to DVD-R copies, HOWEVER if I try any reauthoring, NERO fails... the DVD structure created by the SR674 must be a bit non-standard for Nero. It says it is not a usable DVD. Nero will copy the WHOLE DVD ok, but will not reauthor.

What would you suggest I try using, when I want to reauthor my DVDs burned on the SR674? I want to move title sets around from one DVD to a new one... via copying onto hard drive on the PC, then burning new DVDs for playing anywhere...

I usually record my DVDs in 4-hour or 6-hour mode, so there are 2 - 15 titles on one DVD. The SR674 creates linked menus with 6 items on each menu screen. The first frame of each title is used for the the menu picture, so I pause the TiVo to get a meaningful shot, record a second of video, then pause and restart TiVo at the beginning of the show... then continue to record...

Now I am looking for a cheap, easy solution to rearrange content... but if there really is no EASY way, I'm willing to use whatever works... just need a guide! I want to reauthor and rearrange DVD title sets, and maybe edit menus...

What tools do you suggest??? WHICH GUIDES do you suggest? What's the easiest way to do it, and yet FREE? The Menu and VOB structure for the SR674 may be a bit non-standard... but it plays OK on most DVD players.

I bought Nero, but it sucks... can't handle SR674 DVD reauthoring...

I don't like nero either! I never ran into your problem, but one thing i would try would be TMPGenc DVD Author. You can get a trial version for 30days, so you'll see whether it works for you. It can import from authored DVDs, and in particular it's good with the kind of format used by DVD recorders. You'll find guides for it in the guide section, but it's really easy to use. Give it a shot...

  3. I don't think you would need DVD Shrink if you are dealing with single layer discs...
You should be able to use DVD Decrypter - ISO MODE and it will create an ISO file which you can burn with Nero. No re-authoring required. The resulting disc should end up exactly the same as the one you started out with.
