  1. Is there any software out there that will let me burn dvds outside of the guidelines for dvd video and audio?

I want to burn video to dvd in 720p and I was wondering if any software will let me do this?

    Also some noob questions.

I havent burned dvds in ages once I went up to HD DVD so i'm gonna need some reminders here.
Is mpeg2 the best video codec that DVD supports?

What is the best audio codec that DVD supports as far as a size vs quality?

I figure if i'm trying to put a 720 video on a DVD5 I wont have much room left for audio. I dont really need nor care about anything over CD quality audio so probably 128kpbs at 44 or 48000.

If you want to make a DVD that will actually play on a regular set top player, you will need to adhere to the DVD specifications most times. See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page.

But DVDs are commonly MPEG-2, but MPEG-1 can be used. The audio can be AC3, multiple channel if you have that capability. Or you can use PCM, DTS, MPEG-1 Layer2. AC3 is good for small files and good quality.

  3. I dont care about if it plays on most players are all I wanna know if theres actually a program that will let me burn the video into whatever resolution I want.

I'm pretty much trying to burn these to play on my toshiba HD DVD player. I figure since those can run native 1080p resolution that burning these would work if there was just a program that would actually let me burn a higher than DVD resolution.

Everything has a spec. Find one supported by the player, and do it.
Know that you're no longer make a "DVD", however (DVD-Video format).

You can author and burn HD DVD to DVD so that it will play back on some HD DVD players, however you get around 40 minutes per DVD9. You cannot author a DVD at 720p because DVD does not support 720p and no authoring tool will allow it.

  6. Is there any guide on how to author HD DVD to DVD? I'd really like to look into that.

I'd be fine with a solid 18mb bit rate @ 720p with AC3 196 @ 48000. So I probably could fit alot longer run time than just 40 minutes.

If you have an HTPC, then you might simply
output an HD mpeg-2 to your HD TV-set.
