  1. I just recently purchase a Microtime S-234 TBC Framesync hoping it would help on my old VHS tapes. My plan is to dump my VHS tapes through the microtime to my JVC DR-M10 DVD using rewrites then dumping to the hard drive to edit and author the vobs to put on perment DVD-R's. I was playing with unleaded movie factory to author but have had some issues working with the big Vobs that I rename to .mpegs. My big problem is these tapes are around 20 years old and when I run it straight into the dvd recorder it will blank in and out in bad area's and when I run it through the tbc the picture is all squigly and picture is tearing but I dont have anymore problems with dvd recorder blanking out. I have a couple of vcrs that are
4 head units and both do the same but these are cheaper units. I hate to purchase a high end vhs vcr as this will be a one time deal then Im done with vhs. Any help would be apreaciated.

  2. Buy a top quality used S-VHS 9000 series JVC (with the 4MB DigiPure TBC/DNR processor) off of eBay. These units are famous for being able to play back almost any tape with no problems, and with as much image quality as possible. The HR-S9600U and the HR-S9800U are considered to be the best of the series.

Make your DVD copies, then re-sell the VCR to someone else who can use it. They are in very short supply, so you will likely get back most (or all) of your investment.

  3. Will the jvc 9000 series play tapes that are in SLP mode which is the way I arcieve all my tapes in the day?

The 9000 series should play all three modes, SP LP and EP (sometimes called SLP for super long play)

The JVC plays all three, only records SP and EP. Few machines record LP since the early 90s.
