Right now I have the JVC XV-NP10S I download a sample XVID file about 5 megs and it did not play. I have some very old DIVX files they work fine must be Divx 3.
I've read good and bad about Philips DVP-642 about the XVID play back.

I have the Philips DVP-642, I think it's Great and for the Price well cant go wrong there , the only thing is it wont play gpel or Gmc , Not a big deal to me , also you can hack it region free, and it will play Pal very nice on a NTSC TV.

The Philips DVP-642 does play SVCD, but ...
It will only play the first audio stream even though the format specs allow for 2 separate audio streams.
It will only play the first subtitle stream in a SVCD and it is impossible to change to another subtitle stream or to turn it off. SVCD subtitles are always "on" if they are there.
It may be fussy about bit rate too. I haven't made SVCDs in several years, but the player does seem to be somewhat happier if your SVCD video bit rates are below 2400 Mbps. -

you can not use FF/REW or slo-mo with the philips, when you are zoomed. because of that I returned mine.
I bought an xbox (premod) and run xbox media center. plays dozens of A/V codecs and can stream from the PC. -
Any idea how the Linkplayer2 compares to the Buffalo PC-P3LWG for HD DivX and high bandwidth (~20Mb/s) Mpeg TS files? Which is better supported as far as updates go? I have a Roku PhotoBridge HD and have learned the value (necessity) of frequent updates on relatively new technology.
