  1. Is it possible to use DVR with a DVD recorder? I want to first record the program at the highest quality mode on DVR, then record at the proper mode for the runtime onto my dvd recorder. Is this possible because I've read about Tivo and DVR having some sort of copy once protection. Record to DVR, and it won't allow you to record to other recorders.

2nd question. What bitrate does the DVR record at? Does it produce an exact duplicate of the feed being broadcasted from the signal?

  2. 1. I have no problem using my standalone Tivo with a recorder.

    2. The dtv dvr shouldn't be encoding at any bitrate. It just captures the encoded stream to disc.

and what is the quality of it comparable to?

It will be identical to the source.

It will be indentical to the source.
so do you think it would be better to record to DVR, and then to DVDrecorder, or would it be better to get a HDD dvd recorder? I'm assuming the DVR has higher picture quality than any dvd recorder.

  6. I have an HD Tivo & a Lite-on recorder.

I record with s-video to the recorder in 1 hour mode. Then, edit and encode on the computer.

Seems a waste to buy an HDD recorder... and expensive.

    Looks great.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

For DVDs you will get excellent quality going straight to a DVD recorder.

Do HDD dvd recorders exist yet?

By HDD recorder, I think he means a recorder with a hard drive.

I need to modify that statement. I was thinking of a standalone dvr.

When using a DirecTv dvr it makes no difference in quality whether you go satellite dish -> dvd recorder or satellite dish -> dvr -> dvd recorder. It also makes no difference in quality if the dvd recorder has a hard drive or not as long as you copy from hd to dvd using the same mode.
