I've been using DVD Shrink for a while and there are some things which DVD Shrink cannot do, which is compressing longer programs at good quality.
I've been playing around DVD-RB and HC, but I'm still a little confused. What I want to do is compress a program to 4.25GB and then burn it. The burning part I can do, but using DVD-RB and HC without DVD shrink has me asking questions on just how to compress the video with these programs, and in what order do I use them.
Sorry for the ignorance, but I usually only use DVD Shrink.![]()

DVD-RB will output a DVD cimpliant set of files, in the correct structure (ifo, bup, vobs inside a video_ts folder). You can then either use a burning program such as copytodvd to write a DVD Video disk using these files, or load them into shrink and burn with DVD Decrypter. You could also use imgtools to create a ISO and burn directly with DVD Decrypter.

Here's a link to the basic DVDRB guide. Other than that, I'm not sure what you're question is:

Yeah, for some reason I'm just hitting a brick wall. I think I don't have the paths set correctly in DVD-RB. So, from what I understand so far, DVD-RB will create a VIDEO_TS folder which will have a size of around 4.3GB or so, ready for a burn within the D2AVS folder?

Maybe that's the problem. Would I take the bitrate info from DVD-RB and plug it into HC? On DVD-RB for example, I "prepared" a program, and it says "Overall Bitrate : 2,156Kbs". Space for video is "3,235,948KB".
I appreciate any help. Once I got it, I got it, but I'm a little new to this more in-depth method of burning. -
If you have it set up correctly, then you just load up your DVD and hit Backup (assuming one-click mode). If you are trying to take bitrates from DVDRB and manually configure HCenc then you are seriously up the creek.
Which version of DVD RB are you trying to use ? The so-called Pro version (i.e. payware version) supports HCenc out of the box. The freeware version can be configured to use it by changing the Quenc configuration to point to HCenc. Search here or Doom9 for more details.
They way you are going about it now means you wont get a DVD out the other end, you will still have to author.
Have a look at this post - it may have your answer

It looks like v0.86 had some issues and didn't work with me. v0.89 works fine now, and I have a folder that is compressed to around 4.32GB

Good to hear. There is a very long thread in the Doom9 DVD Rebuilder forum which covers off a lot of these issues. It is an interesting read as it includes both the DVD Rebuilder author's perspective and the HCenc author's perspective on the issues.

Yeah, now the only problem I have is compressing it to around 4.26GB. I tried inserting sector specifics in the .ini file, but it doesn't work. I may make another post about it.
