Ok here's the thing. Captured via TV card of a Tv show in MPEG2 format.
I wanna cut out all the extra bits to make the size smaller so that when i compess to a divx/xvid format the quality loss will be lesser.

Tried Vdub: Vdub doesn't support mpeg2

Tried Vdubmod & vdub/w mpeg2 import support: I selected the start/end marker of each commercial and hit delete as the adverts came along. Did the necessary settings to compress and hit F7, it took less than a split second and I'm left with some 12kb file?! i suspect i have to cut the audio as well? What i did last time was compress/encode the whole darned thing AND THEN append it to remove adverts.

Tried Cutteraman: can't seem to open mpeg2 files, only like .m2v and 2 others more.

Tried TMPGenc: Doesn't have MPEG2 support, and the one with a trail 23 day MPEG2 support I could not seem to figure out how to cut.

Tried Adobe Premiere Pro: Tried the razor tool but not too sure how to work it either.

    Help?
    Forgive the Noob

  2. To use Cuttermaran or MPEG2Schnitt, you have to demux (de-multiplex)... that is, split the MPEG2 file into .m2v and whatever the audio file is. TMPGEnc has a "MPEG Tools" section that does this.

You can also just download the 30 day trial version of Womble MPEG Video Wizard or MPEG-VCR. They are frame accurate MPEG editors that don't require the file to be demuxed first.

  3. I've been extremely happy with VideoRedo. I was using Ulead VideoSuite 8 for editing and burning to DVD but would occasionally run into audio sync issues after editing and the final burn to DVD even though the source was OK. VideoRedo had no problems with the same material (and I'm still using Ulead VideoSuite 8 to burn the DVDs).

The interface is very intuitive as well and has reduced the amount of time needed to edit as well.
