I'm not sure what else to use to rip. I'm using Leawo DVD Ripper and I'm getting the out of sync audio with the video.
This is so annoying! I'm not sure what else to use to rip from DVD to mpeg4...

If you choose to use low quality one-click wonder toys, you will get problems like this. The only way to get the best results consistently is to learn how to do the job properly. This means using the right tools for each stage of the process.

    1. Rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter or DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD running in the background
    2. Convert to H264 using MeGUI, Handbrake, FairUseWizard or Xvid4PSP

Watch high quality conversions with in-sync audio.

Hey 29guns1inger! Thanks so much! I have been using those one-click wonder apps. I will try the DVDFab. None of my DVDs are commercial but rather my own recordings from my VHS tapes converted to DVD. So would I still need the AnyDVD installed?

  4. You normally would not need AnyDVD to rip your own DVD-R discs, but in some very rare cases its possible. I second guns1ingers recommendation of Handbrake, its the only MP4 converter I've tried that doesn't cause audio sync problems, but be aware it can run slow as molasses on some PC configurations. Aside from simplicity, the advantage of many "one click wonder" programs is speed: they can rip a complete 4-episode TV DVD-R to MP4 in an average 35-40 mins. Handbrake in my experience takes something close to three hours. While I prefer Handbrake for the perfect audio sync, I often don't have the time or patience to run it: I've trained myself to ignore lipsync issues if I'm just converting TV shows for the ole iPod with "one click" software. If I were making top-notch H264 files for a media center or movie bank, I'd run Handbrake 24/7 until it was done.

I'd use something like VOB2MPEG first to get it to your HDD in one giant piece.....then convert from there.
DVD recorders often make wacky DVD structures on the final product(disc).

I love the people never give all the relevant information in the first post. You get some up front, then a little more in the next post, then a little more. Makes it very difficult to give a proper answer. Now that you have said that these are home recordings, I would second the use of VOB2MPG to get the titles to your HDD.

I would have included that information earlier but only figured it was relevant later, so I do apologize for that.

I did use DVDFab and it seemed to do a good job but I thought it was freeware.

The decrypting part of the software is free, even after the rest shutsdown. You can do whole disc and main movie rips. Most users don't really need it to do much more. If you need to convert the results to other formats then there are far better tools for the job that DVDFab's built-in encoder.

  12. If the amount it's out of synch is the same throughout, it's often easier to just adjust the delay to put it back in synch rather than trying over and over again.

And, as hech54 says, running the VOBs through FixVTS after the decrypt can often fix the problem.

Handbrake is terrible. It wont save my custom settings to presets.

It doesn't matter. Unless you find and fix the sync issue that is most likely present on your source DVD....you will keep getting the same out-of-sync results no matter what converter you use.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the source DVD-R. It plays fine on the DVD itself.
