  1. I used Sonic MyDVD 6.1 to transcode and create a DVD folder (to test the DVD without wasting a disk). I then burned the folder's contents to a DVD using Easy CD Creator 5 to a Fujisoft 8x DVD-R in my Sony DRU500A. I burned it such that the 3 directories: JACKET_P, OPENDVD and VIDEO_TS were in the root directory of the DVD-R. Windows Media Player recognized this disk as a video DVD when placed in both the DRU500A and an old Pioneer DVD drive.

I then tried to play the DVD-R in my PS2 which can recognize other DVD-Rs and it didn't recognize the disk as valid. I tried the disk in another player, Sylvania SRD3900, which can read DVD-Rs and it could not read the disk either.

I compared the disk to another than can be read by my PS2 and the only difference I can see is that some files that are hidden on the disk that can be read are not hidden on the disk that can't be read. Specifically the 3 files in the JACKET_P directory and the SOURCES subdirectory in the the OPENDVD directory. Could this be causing the problem?

If not any idea why DVD players are having problems with this disk?

  2. Well I figured out that it is important that those files remain hidden since I tested a DVD+RW without them being hidden and it did not work. Easy CD Creator does not keep them hidden.

Sonic RecordIt Now, that comes with MyDVD 6.1, does and it successfully burned a DVD+RW that worked.

Unfortunately trying to burn a DVD-R with Sonic results in Sonic not responding and locking the DVD burner driver so I can't even shut down Windows. I need to hit the reset button.
