Ok, my wife was going to bestbuy today to pick up an sd card for her digital camera (pny 512 for $34) so I asked her to pick me up some good ole cdr's since I am out of them.
She ended up bringing me home Verbatim 52x direct disc labeling discs. I have a pioneer 108 and an nec 3520a. I was wondering what it is that makes a 'lightscribe' drive do what it does. From my understanding, it's just a layer on top the the laser writes into. What is different about the lightscribe drives that makes them able to do this?
Also, is there a way to use a program to burn the label, or maybe flashing something to either one of these drives to burn a label?
I guess I am a little confused about the info about lightscribe...

Well, you cant burnt the label side. You can search all over and you wont find a way of doing it. Its a hardware thing, no firmware can enable it.
