I think my LG GSA-4040b is screwed up. I just stopped writing to any DVDr media.
The drive worked fine for about 6 months or so. The problems started when it will not finalize Prodisc printables or stop half way. But I blamed the discs since it was writing successfully Ritek G05 printables. Then the drive would not burn anything I authored recently but will burn previously ripped or authored material saved on my hard drive.
Now it will not write at all. I use Nero but I tried Copytodvd and PowerDVDCopy with no result.
Is it time to get a new drive or is there hope?
I think the problems started when I started using TY discs but I am not sure.
P4 1.7GHZ
WIN98SE
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B (FW A303)
NERO 6
I updated to A304, same problem
Today I installed a NEC, same problem.
I upgraded to WIN2000 Pro, same problem
Any help would be appreciated

Same thing happened to me with the same exact drive. I called the manufacturer (it was still under warranty), they told me to send it in. Within a week they returned a brand new (or like-new refurbished, i couldnt tell) gsa-4120b (burns @8x, can do dual layer). Nice deal :P
So if you're still under warranty, send it in. You might just get a nice upgrade.-Yar, matey!- -
Thanks guys.
I thought about bad cables, so I replaced it. Now I am on WIN2K PRO and NEC 3520A which became 3520AW (is it normal?) after flashing newest firmware. I will stick to NEC since I read good reviews in the forum. According to NERO ASPI drivers were not loaded or installed. I fixed that thru Force ASPI. Things are much better now. I can burn at 2x on 8X DVD-Rs (Ritek G05 hub-printables, my favorite). I do not know why I cannot go higher. I checked the IDE controllers (thanks to forum threads) and changed secondary IDE from PIO to DMA if available (now it is DMA Ultra).
Now the only thing left to try is Uninstall and Re-install Nero. Hopefully I will not have to format my hard drives.
