  1. Is there a guide to show me how to rip a dvd to xvid and keep the ac3 stream and keep the aspect ratio/resolution.

i love autogk but i can only set a fix width... i want height too.

i just basically want my movie compressed with xvid and leave everything else alone.

is there a guide like this?

AFAIK autogk will retain the aspect ratio of the movie - it will adjust the height to suit whatever width you've specified while keeping the original aspect ratio intact. As for AC3, just specify AC3 audio in the advanced options.

    FWIW I use this guide:

    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Hi-

Yeah, jim's right. AutoGK will give you the correct height based on the width, keeping proper AR. Since AutoGK was developed at least partly for those new to video encoding, giving people the option to also set the height can only lead to AVIs with bad AR.

AC3 audio is default for 2 or more CD rips. MP3 is default for 1 CD rips, and if you are making a 1 CD rip, the chances are very good that you won't be able to have both the AC3 and decent looking video, as AC3 takes up a lot of space. If you're doing relatively short videos (TV episodes and the like) then, again as jim said, just choose the AC3 in Advanced Settings.

  4. thanks for the replies but when i use autogk it says the input file is a 720x480 video but all my movies come out 720xXXX when I set a fixed width

    I never see a 720x480 after I use autogk

i want it to stay 720x480

  5. i want it to stay 720x480

Why? A 720x480 AVI plays with bad AR unless you use your player to set the playback for 16:9 (or 4:3, as the case may be).

Anyway, what you want is possible via the hidden options of AutoGK. Under "Tune auto crop parameters", set the threshold to 0 to disable cropping. And also, set "input AR" to "original". I think that will do it. It's explained in the included tutorial, under the Hidden Options.

  6. thansk for the help manono

i just figured the 720x480 was the correct AR but my main goal is to have the size of the video unaltered just the file size smaller

so i'll try the set input AR

this is what autogk says which is what i want to keep

    Video info: NTSC - 720x480 - 16:9 - 29.97fps

    thanks
