After reading of great success of many people, I broke down and bought the Nero 6 Suite. My Mpegs, which feature AC3 produce no audio when played in Showtime. Also produced no audio when converted to DVD.
Nero did a good job of making the video portion DVD compiant - resized and changed the framerate.
Attempted to use latest updtae. This was worse, crashing while opening my MPEG files.
So far I've tried removing the other related software from my system, uninstall/reinstalling codecs (this is getting ANNOYING), but I get no AC# audio produced from NERO.

Try authoring your mpegs and ac3 in an authoring program like Rejig, ifoedit or DVDAuthorGui, then burn in nero.

Could this be the answer?:
