  1. Hi Guys,

Just got a Pioneer DV-340 from WallyMart at $139.00 - Great machine for the price!
Well, how can i connect the DVD player and my Sattelite system to the TV set using s-video cabling considering that the TV set only has one s-video input?
Maybe some type of switch is needed.. If so any suggestions? Pricing is an issue for me. At this point i'm just unplugging the cable and juggling btween DVD and the reveiver.

    Thanks alot

OK, does your TV accept S-Video via SCART? Some TV's can accept an S-video signal through a SCART connector. The TV will actually use the S-video signal this way, it wont convert it to anything else. I know for a fact that Sony TV's employ this method of S-Video inputs. Normally, the S-video connector is on the front of the TV (In the UK anyway), on the rear you find SCART connectors, sometimes these can double as S-Video inputs also.
I would steer clear of switching, the benefits of S-video over other types of signal, would be offset by the signal degradation the switch would introduce.

What country do you live in?

you can go to most electronic stores or sears, best buy, good guys, type stores get a s-video audio/video selector switcher, is like the full name they say on the box, an s-video switcher, you can get ones with like 4 inputs and 1 output, or 5 ins and 2 outs. it takes s-video/composite video in/out and stereo rca in/out. if you buy one make sure you can return it for full refund though, cause some are kind of cheap, i bought one this weekend and just returned it today, cause if you don't have it sitting right the s-video connection can get loose and sag, and then the signal turns black and white, instead of color, they didn't have any others to try so i have bought another one yet, so it seems like the type of thing where either i got a bad one or all those units are just not that great and will last for only so long. or you can get a a'v receiver that takes s-video inputs.

    pants

let me know if you find some thing good, cause i'm still looking too.

  4. Thanks Guys,

Well i have a Sony TV but not that kinda of connection.. US model.
Pants, yes i'll let ya know on the outcome of it. I guess the solution for me at this time is the switcher because buying another receiver wouldn't be possible now..

    Thanks again

What about RGB inputs? Does it have an RGB input? My Sony TV does, perhaps RGB would be a good alternative to S-video. Does either your DVD player or satellite reciever output anRGB signal? My Pioneer player can output an RGB signal and my Sony TV can accept an RGB signal; I would rather use an RGB signal than to use a switch box for S-Video.

  6. I've seen these switchers at Best Buy by Recoton. My guess is it would be a cheep solution until one day when you get a S-Video switching reciever.

Here is one from Radio Shack that works with remote controls:

  7. Great help here. Thanks.
Although not sure what is an RGB connection my Sony TV seems not have that. Only RCA type and s-video..
The switcher will be the solution and the recoton is a good choice(price. Going to BB and check those out, an extra set of s-video cables is needed as well.

    Thanks again!
