    The question is ...

I need to be able to capture streaming video (off of a internet connection) to be able to be saved and uploaded to a website and looped.

    This is the situation.

I am a co-owner for a video surveillance company and after talking to my partner I (we)would like to capture the internet remote viewing software as it is streaming (live). save it. and convert it to load up onto our website as a type of demo so other potential customers can see what type of software/hardware we use (some is http based and some is software only based). And loop it on our website say a 10 second clip or so.

I just don't know how to capture it. Thanks in advanced for your help.

This link is sort of what I'm aiming for just not quite as advanced I just need a small clip looping would be fine.

Oddly, using such a low quality deliver mechanism actually works against them. The videos from each camera all look basically the same. Doesn't convince me at all.

    What camera ?
    What type of stream ?
Can you connect the camera up directly to a capture device instead of streaming the signal ?

Thank you redwudz won't happen again.

The stream I'm looking to capture is streaming video from CCTV cameras that are installed at various locations that we have installed. The capture would be via an internet connection. Basically I would like to just log in remotely the Digital Video Recorder with Internet Explorer and 'screen capture' (if there is software that will do that) of my desktop as I'm viewing the cameras, THEN save the capture of the streaming cameras and somehow upload it (possibly with a .flv or flash) and upload it to our website to show the capability of our Digital Video Recorders and Camera systems. Thanks again in advance for all your help guys.

Again, what we need to know is what format the stream is sent via. Is it a video stream, or a series of stills ? If it is a stream, what format is it > FLV ? WMV ? ASF ?

Thanks for the help! The stream would be mpeg-4 compression format. Sorry I didn't specify.

That is one approach, however you are not capture the stream with those tools, but grabbing the entire desktop (or region thereof). You may also have issues if the video is displayed using the overlay.

If you can cap the stream you will be better off. Try the Video Downloader plugin for Firefox.

  9. Camstudio (and Wink too, I think) records the video after it has been been decompressed and put on the screen. You will have to recompress it so it will no longer be representative of the original stream. Orbit or Replay Media Catcher will download the compressed stream.
