This past weekend I captured a 2 hour home video (8mm) and while editing the video I noticed the audio/video were not synched about half way through the movie. I captured the video using Studio 9. What I'm wondering is, would it be better to capture...say 30 minutes....at a time and then join the 4 videos up? Or is there a better way to capture to keep the audio/video synched? I plan on using Movie Maker for credits (like some of the effects it has) and DVDlab Pro. I may try using Vegas as well. Any/all suggestions appreciated.

How did you capture it - was it through a firewire card (DV) or an analogue capture card ? If analogue, does it have audio in, or do you have to plug the audio in through the sound card ? Was this a single capture (2 hours) or two x one hour captures ?

I captured the video using a Pinnacle break out box. That box connects to my pc via a USB cable. The break out box has composite inputs as well as S-video. I used the composite for both video/audio. It was a single capture. The 8mm tapes are 2hours long.

Start with shorter captures and see how you go. 30 minutes is probably a good starting point. Review each capture before moving on to the next. If the audio still fdrifts, try 15 minute grabs.

  5. Audio sync is one of the most frustrating aspects of this hobby. It made me go out and buy a ADVC-50. I just got it yesterday and been testing. I got a 6 hour VHS tape. That will be the real test...
