Most transfer programs by default expect to getting their input from tape while the player is under their control. The first thing they do is look for a tape. I have the same problem getting VHS through my camera with Vegas. In the end I had to change a setting so that the software stopped taking control of the camera and just grabbed whatever came down the pipe. Unfortunately I can't open Vegas at present to tell you which one, but I suggest you look for similar setting in the WinDV and have a play. It can be done.

When SP2 first came out a number of people reported strange failures of previously working software. In many cases a reinstall of the software seemed to set things right. I'd start there.
