This is very wierd, and I have spent the last several days looking through the forums with no luck.

    Burner: NEC 3500AG Burner
    Burn Speed: 6X
Disc: RitekG05 (others have done it as well)

Here's the situation... when attempting to re-rip the DVD after I have burned it using several different apps (Alcohol, Nero, DVDDecrypter, ISOBuster...) I get "random" read errors. By random I mean that when attempting to rip one time I will get a read error on sector "x" and then another time (same app) I will get a read error on sector "y". Sometimes, if I start the rip over enough times I will get through the whole disc without a problem, other times, it will continue to randomly read error out. I have tried pretty much every setting in every app used, including "fast skip" and "ignore" and so forth, additionally, I have tried using SPTI (Windows), WinASPI (Adaptec), Pattin-Coffin (VSO) for I/O interfaces with no luck.

Does anyone know what is happening?

  2. Burner/reader could be dying, or have a dirty lens. Just a guess, because this is starting to happen to me. I hope it isn't anything I can't easily fix. But, of course, that media is problematic.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this happens in both the DVR-RW I have (NEC mentioned above) and the DVD reader I have (Samsung something-or-other).

  4. Have you tried a simple drag and drop?

Yep, Windows, after what seems like an intolerable amount of time will eventually error out. Please note also that this is multiple discs, not just one problematic one, and they play fine in a standalone.

  6. Is your hard drive full, or fragmented? Can you read originals fine? Can you burn fine?

Everything works great, just trying to rip these discs to make another copy of them and it's not happening. I have gone back to a lot of older burns as well that were done with a different DVD-RW drive and I have the same issue. One thing to note, it seems that only DVD-R's are doing it. I have ripped a couple of DVD+R's that were burned recently without issue.

This is priceless... I throw the current disc I have been trying to rip since about 5 hours ago into my old laptop and it rips it without issue. This is really starting to drive me nuts.

  9. I don't know what to tell ya, still sounds like the media, even if it has happened to several different brands of media, there is more crap media floating around out there than good media.
