  1. I have caputred several MPG video segments using the DVD-quality setting on my Hauppauge WINTV-PVR250 card. I am now trying to burn them to DVD, but I always have issues with compatability. It will play in my main standalone player, but with no sound. My secondary player will play it half the time but not the other hald. PowerDVD says "unsupported disc format in drive f:". Ulead DVD Player plays it fine. Windows Media Player plays the video with no sound. My friend's standalone player plays it fine. I have tried burning this DVD with Roxio EasyDVD Creator, TMPGEnc DVD Author (no AC3), NeroVision Express, and Ulead Easy Disc Creator, All of which have very similar outcomes in terms of compatability. I have an Asus 16x burner, and am using Legacy 8X DVD+R discs, which I have heard are fairly good. Would adding the AC3 plugin to TMPGEnc DVD Author fix this? Or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks for any help.

Some dvd players have problem with mpa/mp2 audio(wintv capture to this) or you might have to change the audio settings in the dvd player to mpeg layer 2 -> pcm or similiar. If you get the ac3 plugin for tmpgenc dvd author you should get sound.

And be sure to use GOOOD media.

  3. Ok, if I don't want to pay the $29 for the AC3 plugin for tmpgenc dvd author, is there a free tool I can use to extract the audio from my mpg files and convert it to AC3?

belight or besweet or ffmpeggui...but it doesn't create 100% compliant ac3s though. no other free ac3 encoder out there.
