Guys, i'm new to Dvd recording and since i'm not familiar with the basics of digital recording, i'm stuck with my new Pioneer recorder. I would be greatfull if someone will help me into this.
I connected my portable DVd player with the new DVD recorder by using the S cable, then i selected the input level on the dvd recorder and then selected the rec mode (fine rec). After that i started recording. After the recording was done i tried to play the newly recorded disc on my portable DVD player but it says that "this kind of discs cannot be played".Well its a DVD-r disc and my portable DVd-player plays all other DVd-r discs. Can someone please tell me as to what exactly went wrong?
I just learnt the a newly recorded disc should be FINALIZED before it is played on other DVD players. Can that be the reason? if it is then can someone please tell me about this Finalizing stuff and as to how it can be done?
I would really appreciate if someone helps me into this, i just wanna know as tow here am i going wrong![]()

The Finalizing process is simple and well explained in the Pioneer manual. After burning the DVD, go to the Disc Setup menu and choose Finalize. You'll be given a choice of background menus. When you press okay you'll have a couple seconds to preview the window before finalization begins (it takes a minute or two).
Some things to note:
1. The Pioneer automatically gives your disc a name such as Disc 67. If you want a better name to appear on the finalized DVD menu then you need to change the name with the Input Disc Name option in the Disc Setup menu.
2. The menu will show the "Navimark" frame that either was automatically selected or that you manually selected. If you want a different frame, play the title and use Navimark to select the frame you want before finalizing.
3. The Pioneer automatically gives your each video you record a title. If you want a title that makes sense and haven't changed it before burning the disc, go to the Disc Navigator menu, choose Ttl Name and select the title you want to rename. The finalized menu shows two lines of 16 characters each. There is no automatic word wrap from one line to the next, so add any needed spaces at the end of the first line so the second line starts a new word. -
Thanks for ur reply Frob, but i seems to have a big problem. The dvd recorder is not recording atall. I played the disc on the recorder and it was blank.I have tried both DVD-r and DVD-Rw discs but both failed.
I don't know what the problem is, i spent 3 hrs trying to figure out but had no success. When i place the recording disc in the recorder, it is automatically initialized, then it says it is unfinalized, which means that i can record on it.After that i connected the portable DVD player (with the disc that is to be copied) with the DVd recording (using S video cable, even tried AV cables) double check the input level and recording mode and then pressed the recording button. It does start recording, but the result is that the disc are BLANK.
Guys, i really need ur help, some of u must have burned 1000's of DVD's and must have some idea as to where am i going wrong. This is a brand new recorder which plays the disc perfectly but for some reason i'm not able to record anything.
If someone has any idea then please help me, is there anything else that need to be done before we start DVd recording that i am not doing? I can't return the DVD recorder to the company untill i'm sure that its faulty.PPl who use Pioneer 320- must have a good idea as i'm using the same recorder.
THis post must be very boring for most of you guys but i just need help -
What is the DVD you are trying to copy, is it a commercial movie? If it is, it will be copy protected to stop anyone doing exactly what you are trying to do.
