    Hi guys,

I have a MKV movie file and I used ImageBurn to burn it to a DVD-R but all my DVD players can not play the disc . Does that mean I will need to have a blu-ray player to play that dvd? Thank you very much.

Mkv is not a blu-ray format. No standalone dvd player or blu-ray player supports mkv. Only HTPC and some media centers.

You might be able to able to remux the mkv to AVCHD and it will work on some blu-ray players like the PS3. See http://www.bitburners.com/articles/convert-mkv-files-to-blu-ray-or-avchd-for-playstati...-tsmuxer/4019/

    Hi Balkrick,

Thank you very much for you help. And YES, I did use ImageBurn to remux the mkv (just like the instruction from the link you gave me) and saved it as ISO file then I also used ImageBurn to burn it to a dvd-r. But my dvd players could not play that dvd. So, is there anyway to convert the mkv file and burn to a regular dvd-r then to watch it in my regular dvd players? Thanks.

Insert the DVD-R into your computer DVD drive and open the drive with Windows Explorer or any other file manager.

What's the file structure on that disc? Does it have an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEO_TS folder containing VOBs and all the DVD files? Or does it only show <your_filename>.mkv?

    Hi leghorn,

The original file is "<your_filename>.mkv". Then I used ImageBurn to remux it and save it as ISO image file. Then I used ImageBurn to burn it to a dvd-r. I do not have that disc here so I can not answer your question now. I will check it later and report back. Thank you.

In order for you to play your bluray mkv on regular DVD player you'll have to convert it to regular DVD standards i.e. 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL...Try with FAVC,ConvertxtoDVD...I find that demuxing and re-encoding,then authoring a new DVD works best for me...
