  1. I've been using vdub_mp3_freeze to edit my avi files encoded with mp3. I've had a problem where the segment i cut from the avi actually has about a few seconds extra video in front of where I specified the video to be cut. Is there a way to fix that?
Also I am using direct stream copy and would like to not alter the video file at all. Does it matter what setting I have the option "Video Color Depth<Output Format To COmpressor Display" set at? I currently have it on 24bit.
Is there an avi editing program that allows you to do a direct stream copy and shows a timeline so that I can cut multiple clips from an avi file and then join them all at once. With vdub you can only cut one out at a time and then you have to go back and join them togther seperately.

Vdub is only letting you make the cuts at "key" frames, that's why you sometimes get extra video when you don't want it.

Not sure about the color setting.

Rather than saving multiple avi's and rejoining, why not just delete what you don't want then save what's left over?!

  4. VirtualDub's Direct Stream Copy mode can only cut at key frames. Hold down a Shift key when seeking in VirtualDub to move to key frames only. That way you'll be able to see exactly where the cuts will be.

  6. Alas, to get frame-accurate cutting you _must_ use a serious video editing tool: Adobe Premiere (or Pro), Vegas Video, or Ulead MediaStudio Pro are your only choices and sadly they cost serious bucks. If you have linux chops you might look into Cinelarra, but from what I've seen it still has a ways to go before it's fully stable. Plus, you need to know a whopping lot about linux to get Cinelarra to work with your camcorder or other input device.

VirtualDub is capable of frame accurate editing if you don't use Direct Stream Copy mode. Of course, all the other modes require decompression and recompression of the video.
