I have a Pioneer 107 and a Sony CD-Rom in my Medion PC. I have bought a Pioneer 109 really cheaply (couldn't resist). Can I replace the Sony with the 109 and will the machine detect it straight away? I think it would make on-the-fly burning more reliable. Do I have to make any adjustments to the jumpers at the back of the 109?

Yes, the machine will detect it. You will just need to choose which writer you will be using. Enjoy

I have both a CD burner and a DVD burner, well that was a waste of money! I got up that morning and fixed myself a great big heaping bowl of DumbShits.
DVD burner is enough.Geronimo -
Make sure the jumpers are the same as the ones on the old drive.

Could you tell me how to do the different IDE channel thing? Thanks.

re two diff burners .. some good reasons to have two diff burners .. some drives are better at audio extraction , some drives are quicker, noisier than others.. some drives will read/burn 99 min cdrs (in my case, old drive burns/reads 99cdr, new drive does not even recognize them as a valid disc!)
readers( -Rom) are better readers, than writers (-RW) IFYKWIM!!Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.

Thanks RabidDog. I'll try when I get back from work.
I think you missed the point Redd. I was enquiring about 2 DVD writers copying on the fly. Sometimes the CD-Rom I already have sends the info too slowly. It might be dumb, but I'm no expert or I would not be asking.carpe diem maņana -

Ensure that the 2 dvd writers are connected to two different IDE Channels.
For example:
1st writer: Primary IDE Channel (master or slave)
2nd writer : Secondary IDE Chaneel (master or slave) -
to waheed, many latest PCI-Xpress motherboards (like Intel 915GAV) only have one parallel ATA port. The other onboard ports are SATA. Is performance then diminished in any way on connecting the two DVD drives to this one PATA port as master and slave??
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i". -
Just remember IDE is not capable of interleaving which means only one read/write operation at a time. In short, YES there are somewhat major performance issues with two burners on one cable.
When I had my drives master slaved on the same cable I could not only the fly DVD burn at over 4X now that they are on seperate cables I can on the fly burn at 12X.
Hope this helps. The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!
