  1. Hi,
Can anyone help me how to split a 700 MB avi file (DivX 5.0 with VBR audio)?

The Virtualdub Mod diplayed the attached message and I could not do anything, did not matter which option (Yes or No) I chose.

Is there any other software which I could use to split DivX or XVid file without reencoding?

Or is there any way to create chapters for DivX files, beacuse then I do not need to split this avi?

  2. Thank you, Baldrick, but I've got another problem.

When I click to play the file I got this message:

    What can be this problem?

  3. That particular flavor of Divx probably isn't supported by VDub mp3 freeze, or you might not have the right Directshow filter installed on your computer.

Been a while since I dealt with divx much but IIRC VDub gave me some problems. You might want to try a native divx/xvid cutter/joiner.

    Try http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index2.html#cutjoin
and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the various freeware divx cutter/joiner programs. One of 'em might fit the bill.

Nota bene: there are various hinky flavors of divx including low-motion divx, older divx 3.0, etc., and not all of 'em are supported by the cutting/joining software you may use. Try using Gspot to see what codec you need and see if you can pick a divx cutter/joiner that supports that flavor of divx.

  4. When I've gotten that "improper VBR" warning I've just answered "No", switched on Audio Full Processing mode, and recompressed the audio. In most cases this has worked fine.

When that hasn't worked I exported the audio as WAV and used that as the audio source.
