  1. i have a lot of home camcorder movies on DVD...
...now that i have a PC, i wanted to try my hand at editing them using 'pinnacle studio9'...
..after a while without joy, i was told that i would need to 'convert' these DVD's before my editing software would recognise them...
    .
i downloaded some software(ReJig, DVDdecrypter) & tried to follow a guide by a fellow named 'baldrick' on this site...
..i got 1 converted to MPEG?, and the 'pinnacle 9' recognised this, but there was >no sound<...
..the sound was, during the conversion process, put in a seperate AC3_audio file, which my editing software doesnt even see!..
    .
my wish is for someone to make this problem go away, by telling me how to do this while keeping the sound & video together..
    .
    fanks..
    ...have i given enough info?

Can you import separate audio in pinnacle studio? Then convert the ac3 audio to wav with belight or goldwave.

If your audio is in a seperate file, you have to change your work area to timeline view and open the audio and drop it on the timeline seperately.

Pinnacle does not automatically import the audio with the video unless the audio is in the video file.

Pinnacle will import certain audio file extentions though, so make sure you check it out first.

I also use a recorder on accassion and I rip to MPG2 with audio, directly in Tmpg DVDAuthor or TDA for short. You can then load that in an editor to edit.

My advice is find something that will accept the video you already have. If there on a DVD and playable on a DVD player then you "should" be able to edit them with P9. If you have to transcode them to mpeg that will work in pinnacle you will lose quality, not much but you will. There's numerous trial version that you can try for compatibility, try Ulead Video Studio to start.

I assume you did. And if you did, the video files were captured in the DV-AVI format.
No, because what he said was....

So, I'm assuming that chuck.d has a DVD camcorder and now wishes to edit that footage.

I recommend Womble mpeg-video wizard to edit the vob's directly from the disk.
