I tried converting it in tmpg, and it did it without losing audio sync, but it wont play when burned as a vcd in my dvd player, and I've made vcds before.

    Any ideas?

  3. well lets see
If your dvd player ONLY plays standard vcds, then this is what u need to look at-
    Download xing mpeg player
Import your movie on the cd(in MPEGAV folder) in xing mpeg folder and hit the info button, do not play the movie.
OK now, this is what it should be-
    res- 352x240
    fps-29.97
    vid bitrate- 143.75 KB\sec or 1150 kbits\sec
audio- 44100 Hz or 44.1 KHz 224 kbit audio or 26 kb\sec audio
If all that is correct, then there may have beena couple things that you may have not noticed that happened but you cannot check these though-
Aspect ratio has been set wrong
Motion search precision was changed and your dvd player did not accept it.
    VBV buffer size was changed
You encoded as mpeg-2 instead of mpeg-1
u encoded at a different stream other than MPEG-1 VideoCD Standard)
U encoded as vcd but burned it as an svcd
U encoded as svcd but burned it as a vcd
U are not using nero to burn your vcds
