  1. I was about to convert UHF (funniest flick ever, yeah?) for viewing on my PSP, when I discovered that ffmpegx thinks the video is 23.976 fps, while both mplayer and quicktime clearly state that it's standard NTSC at 29.7 fps - even ffmpegx states that the video is 29.7 when I hit the info button.

I ripped the vob with MTR.

Anyone know why this happens and how to fix it? If I convert it to MP4 PAL or NTSC, the video will get that annoying framelag every second...

  2. Notice in the left column that it lists the .vob as 23.976 w/3:2
3:2 pulldown is used to reverse the Telecine - when a film source (24fps) is converted to NTSC (30fps/60i).

UHF is a 24fps (or in this case, 23.976) movie, and you should compress it as such. It would look smoother than if you compressed it as 29.97fps, and have 20% less frames (which are nothing more than repeats of other frames).

  3. Yes, but the problem is also such that the PSP settings in ffmpegx only allows you to choose between 25 or 29.7 fps...

Edit: Okay, thanks! Found the 23.9 option now, it didn't automatically appear on the dropdown menu, had to tug it up and down a few times before it appeared (think I gotta reinstall this program, it behaves strangely...)

Thanks a lot for your help.
