  2. You can make them mpeg without conversion, so no quality loss. So which one did you want to do, mpeg or avi? What are you wanting to do ultimately, burn back to dvd?

    Unless you are altering the files in some way, just rip the disc with dvd decryptor, then use dvdshrink.

    Now you're going to re-author your backup. Open your folder (where VOB files are located). You'll notice that DVD Shrink has a screen split in two - these files will be located on the right (there are also 2 guides, 1.DVD Browser and 2.Compression settings).
    1.Click re-author;
    2.Mouse right click and drag the files you want to the left side of the screen;
    3.On the right side click on guide "Compression settings", check the boxes corresponding to what you want = AC3 in English, French, Portuguese, whatever;
    4.Check out the compression settings and leave it Automatic if the SIZE in above 80% (that means the compressionn will be at 20%). Under 80%, there will be a noticeable loss of quality so select no Compression and on the left side clik on that small icon showing 2 arrows, one above the other one, both facing opposite directions.
    5.Select the chapters you want so the uncompressed DVD fits on a single layer DVD (ex. disc one has got to range from chapters 01 to 15).
    6.Backup to a previously created folder, ex., Folder A.
    7.Repeat the operation for disc 2 selecting the next chapters, for instance, if the last one was 15, select the next, choosing 16 to the last one. 8.Backup to another folder, ex., Folder B. Burn folder A then B with your favorite application. You can even use Vegas Video or any other application like that to create fancy warnings such as: End of disc 1, pelase insert disc 2 and so on. If you have a DVD drive that is capable of recording Dual Layer Media, forget the chapters and backup the whole thing. The only disadvantage of this last method is that most Dual Layer media are not compatible with some DVD players. I guess they are currently trying to fix this problem.
    Cheers
