  1. I read through some topics like this, saying check if DMA is on, and it is, but it's still not going any quicker.

With some discs it'll only burn at 1x no matter what, and with other it'll burn at 2x, even if the disc are 8x ones then selves, and even if i tell the computer to burn at 4x. The writer is an 8x one, DVD Dual is the make.

Can someone please help as it's taking an hour to burn a DVD.

    Thanks

  5. No clue who makes the DVD Dual burners, thats really all it says on it.

Also i'm not very good with all the computer stuff, so i don't really know what a fireware update is, is there a link to infomation about it anywhere?

    Also thanks for the help.

    Go to Device Manager->DVD/CD-ROM drives.
    Go here for firmware: www.rpc1.org
I would go to the BIOS(hold the "delete" or "F12" button when booting) and check to see that your drives are set to Auto for PIO and UDMA.

BTW...what media are you using and is this a new problem?

  7. Just cause DMA is ON doesn't mean its using it. Go look under the DMA box & see what DMA mode its using.

  11. I have a similar problem. No matter what DVD Burner only burned at 1x even when I set DVD Decrypter to burn at MAX or at 4x. The DVD-R I have can do it up to 4x.

I checked the properties of the D drive and it shows:
    current reading speed 1x
    current writing speed 1x

Is there anyway to change this to a higher speed? Sorry, I'm a computer dummie....so if there is a way please show me how.

Or is it because my DVD Burner is limited to burn only at 1x and there is no way to get around this??

  12. @yenly,
You might want to fill out your computer specs.
    Have you tried Nero DriveSpeed?

  13. I forgot to add that it's an internal ATAPI (IDE) interface drive that came with my desktop when I bought it from Gateway.

    It's Panasonic DVD-RAM LF-D311.

I don't have my computer specs memorized...if you need that I'll get it later this evening when I'm home. But with the DVD burner I listed above, can you tell whether or not it's limited to write only at 1x? Or is it a setting I would be able to change?
