I'm the perfect rebate patsy. I justify purchasing something more expensive than I was planning on buying by the rebate incentive (can you say "Best Buy"?). I'll get it home and let the deadline for the rebate slip by, and when I realize it, I then rationalize the original higher dollar purchase ! Come on folks, I can't be the Only one...can I?

I never buy something for more expecting to pay less in the end. I buy stuff that is around the average but much less after rebates.

    Yes.

Staples also offers a 150% price guarantee (they'll reduce by 50% of the difference) - I've taken advantage of this time and time again... I've picked up most any cable I need for a buck or two - they're over priced at Staples and can always find someone selling for significantly less. Once picked up 512Mb dual channel for $45 then used a $25 rebate (back when 512 was running about $100). Got my colour laser for $430 then used a $100 rebate...

I quit doing rebates because I found myself having to call them for my money at least 50% of the time or more.

I am becoming a rebate nazi......If I see a good deal with a rebate, I'll probably buy it. And I do send them all in on time...No problems with getting my money as of yet...

I don't look for rebates and I ain't the best shopper around, if I want it or need it and a store has it, I buy it! I may shop products but usually not prices, so rebates are only a bonus. I have only done maybe ten rebates that I know of, and HP is the only one that I can think of that burned me. This thread reminded me to submit one for an All In One printer that I bought about a month and a half ago. A BIG THANKS! I almost pitched a rebate check into the trash once. I got a card from the software company with what looked to be a bunch of advertisement on it. When I flipped it into the trash I just happened to notice that the back of the postcard was the rebate check, like $125 or something! (in all fairness the same may have happened with HP but who knows?)

I know that alot of folks get all bent out of shape over rebates, but I don't think that counting on them to offset the price is a good plan. While I and most people have had pretty good luck getting them back there does seem to be the few that can't get a break. I work with one such guy. He is no moron and deserves better service, but he just manages to get screwed everytime that he turns around. Four of us found out about an accounting program that was offering a full refund as the rebate, all you really paid was the taxes. The guy that turned us onto this deal said that he got his rebate in like three days. We all said no way, but bought the software for ourselves hoping to get the rebate in like six weeks or months or eventualy if we were lucky. Sure enough I got my rebate pretty fast (the one I almost pitched as a matter of fact) and another guy got his almost as fast as he turned it in. But not my other co-worker, he e-mailed and called and threatened and still never got his rebate. (He knew to be looking for a postcard too by this time)

He bought a big laser printer with a $250 rebate and asked if I would do the paperwork for him. I didn't want to be responceable for mistyping any info or anything and him not getting his rebate, but I did go to his house and watch him do it step by step on the computer. And he still got screwed! And to make things worse the printer takes a crap and then the store gives him a bunch of lip about not being able to refund the whole price because of the rebate application! We had to go to another store (he is pretty much persona non gratta at the first store) and tell them the whole sad story. They swapped the printer out after enough paperwork to buy two houses and end all wars! (No refund was available there either and it was only after they set the printer up, tested it, inspected it, called their people, called the printer people, gave us looks like we where shit and finally decided that they didn't want us in their store any more!)

Sorry, didn't mean for this to drag out. The morale of this is, don't count on the rebate, accept it as a gift, if you get it!
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?
