On the subject of sharpness I have a serious issue
I have tried a number of programs but the results have been discouraging as the resulting DVDs still pics without transitions the rendering is of much lower quality than the original pics? The resulting pictures on mpeg look fuzzy or rather ike I had used a gaussian filter.
I got a satisfactory result in the last few days trying Magix Photostory but it wasn't the full version.
Is there a codec fault or transcoding problem and does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks

Are you talking about DVD-Video (720x480 or 576) or are you talking about full resolution data backups? Full resolution backups should be identical to the originals.

I think he is talking about making a DVD slide show of Movie aout of the photos. It WILL look a bit degraded as 720x480 resolution is much lower than normally used on images meant form printing.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

If your goal isn't to shrink them to TV resolution for playback on a TV, then don't. Just store them in full resolution as data.

If you goal is to shrink them to TV resolution, then use a good scaler like Photoshop.

  6. I had this problem with a slideshow project I've been working on. After hours of research and opinions I have finally come up with good results. The real culprit here is excessive compression. Find a compression app which will give you options as to how much compression you desire. The less you use, the better your DVD project will look.

  7. The best way to show pictures on TV... Get a a DVD player that can read JPG files off of a CD-R disc. This shows them exactly as the original.

Compressing still pictures with MPEG2, usually results in poor quality, like you are getting. I bought a Panasonic DVD-S47S just for the reason to show JPG pictures on TV for the family. It works great. But it is still showing it as "TV quality",(720x480), not the big 6MP files that come out of my camera.
