With a DVD authoring program with AC-3 support. Most have it at least as an extra cost option.
    What are you using?

Demux the audio and use BeSweet to convert it to AC3. You can find BeSweet at http://www.doom9.net in the Downloads section. Get BeSweet GUI because the GUI is easier to use than the command line.

Don't understand why you say your player can't support LPCM, as LPCM support is REQUIRED on EVERY DVD player.

    I was wondering that myself.
Demux with VOBEdit and convert to AC3 with ffmpeggui.

  6. If your LPCM is 44KHz and you convert to 44KHz MPEG audio, that could be your problem. Make certain your audio is 48KHz for DVD compatibility.

I don't remember seeing that in the specification. In fact, Region 1 DVD players are only required to support Dolby Digital to my knowledge. No MPEG audio, no LPCM. I could be wrong though.

  9. Click on the What Is DVD link at the top left of this page:

    Audio:
    48000 Hz
    32 - 1536 kbps
Up to 8 audio tracks containing DD (Dolby Digital/AC3), DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2. One audio track must have DD or PCM Audio.
This has always been, and still is, the NTSC standard for audio.
