  1. I think I read about someone having a similar problem, but I could not locate it anymore on this forum.

I had just recorded on a +R and HAD NOT finalized the disk yet. I inadvertantly pushed eject on the remote and when I closed the drawer back it would say "preparing" disk and stayed this way for at least five minutes. Then when it finished it said on the top "data disk". If I try to browse what is on the disk nothing comes up. I have the 1193 firmware installed.
So, is this disk a coaster now? If so, let this serve as a warning to other ILO owners, do not eject the disk until you have finalized it.
In the beginning, I loved my ilo, now I am starting to get discouraged.

Any suggestions, fixes or comments would be appreciated.

  2. I had a LiteOn 5101 (same company makes the ILO) and if it locks up or ejects when writing to the DVD+R, then I end up getting a coaster, especially if I had to unplug it when it locked up during recording. But most of the time I can leave the disk unfinalized and use it as much as I like without a problem. It's that 1 in 100 chance that will damage your disk. Once I got the coaster, I found no way to get it back. Sorry.

I eject my discs all the time without finalizing with no problems. It must have been a user mistake.

    carter2004,

Has this happened only after the upgrade to 1193? If so, HOW did you upgrade? There are now two parts to 1193, A and B, if you only install part B (the latest firmware version) you won't get the DVD drive updates that were part of 1193-A. Maybe this has something to do with it?

  5. Harpmaker:

It is possible that I did not upgrade to both a and b. The setup screen only shows (0193), so I will redo them and see if it makes a difference. It happened again last night so it is not a user error, but I sure hope redoing the firmwares will correct it because I was on the verge of heading over to Wally world (even though its past 90 days) ! Thanks for your help, I will post as soon as I do the reinstall

  6. Harpmaker: Hail to the KING!!! You were right on the money!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!

From what I could tell I updated with the 1093 A version then when the B version came out I had not updated to it. So apparently, if you only do the A and not the B and you eject the disk it will not let you finalize it or add anything to it. So I updated with the B version tonight, recorded on a disk for thirty minutes, ejected it without finalizing and reinserted the disk and WHAMOO!! It saw it!

I am so thankfull for this site and all the helpfull members!! Thanks Again Harpmaker!!!
