    Hi all,

I downloaded 2 .avi files and tried to join them with vdub.

Upon opening each individual file within vdub I got an error indicating that "improper VBR audio encoding had been detected and will rewrite with standard CBR values".

I ignored this and tried to join them. I got an error saying that it cannot join them because they are at "different sampling rates"

To get round this I ran the two files seperatley through vdub with full audio processing mode and compressed the audio so that they were all the same (i picked MPEG layer 3, 128 kBit/s. 48.000 Hz stereo).

So then I took the new files and tried to join them.

The 2 files are 20 mins long but when I looked at the result of joining file 1 to file 2 the result was a file over two hours long which had repeated itself twice and I also noticed all the dubbing was out the further into the file I looked.

What the hell am I doing wrong????

  2. Click YES, when prompted with the error.
    Don't compress audio.
Learn how to frameserve, unless you just want to join these for storage.

  3. It sounds to me like the filenames of the videos were the same with numbers at the end. Like "Video1.avi" and "Video2.avi". When numbered this way, when you load Video1, VDub will automatically appended video2. and then you appended Video2 again. I don't think it always does this depending on the version of VDub you have, but if you're not aware of this feature it can be really confusing.

Thanks gadetguy I will try your suggestion out.

Thanks also to reboot but can I ask what you mean when you say learn how to frameserve unless you just want to store them. My purpose for these two files is to combine them and then put them on a DVD to watch on my TV. I do not need to alter or play with the quality in any way, so is the method im using the correct method or is there a better, quickier and easier way. I will use TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Author for the latter stages after the .avi files have been combined using vdub

  5. If your aim is to convert the files to DVD mpeg2files you don't need to join them before conversion. This can be done after the conversion at DVD authoring step.
If your aim is to play the avi files in DVD player or TV VDub is the solution to join them.
Simply nobody knows what you want.

Convert each AVI to DVD-compliant MPEG2 and use your authoring software to join them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Where you download them from and why you tried to join them?

Hi all and thanks for your help.

The files are two recordings of a new band and I downloaded them off their website (perfectly legal may I add!)

All I wanted was to have them on one dvd disc, so I could play them on my dvd player connected to my tv.

I'm no expert as you can tell but read a few 'how to guides' and decided I needed to join the files and then convert them and then author them using tmpgenc and TMPGEnc author

From reading your responses it seems a better way would be to join them at authoring stage, is this correct? If so how do I do it

    Thanks all

  11. If you're going to use TDA, just add both videos when prompted.
