I am trying to convert MOV to MPG using TMPGEnc with QTReader.vft (plugin), however when I try and open the *.mov file, I keep getting an 'illegal floating point calculation error'.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Is there another app that does MOV-->MPG ??
Thanx,
ash

Use Radtools to convert the mov but unfortunately I dont know how to convert the audio, only the video will work.
http://www.radgametools.com
u can still convert the audio using TMPEgEnc, then use the multiplex tools to join the audio and video. -
Just use the new version of Quicktime, it has an export as .avi option. Just choose option, no compression, millions of colors, quality best, frame rate equal to source, uncompressed audio 44.1khz, 16 bits 2 channels. Then convert with TMPGEnc, or whatever!

the problem here is with Mov files that have copyrighted soundtracks, even quicktime wont export to avi if a video has copy protection on the mov file

I use TotalRecorder to catch the audio portion to a .wav file, radvideo to convert the video, then merge them back together with virtualdub or tmpgernc.
I posted TotalRecrder here and patch for it here:

Hello,
Using the export command or RAD works but it is a lot of work and is slower especially if you compress the files when you make them to avi files. You might also do something wrong with the settings and make you file not so good. In any case, if you do recompress the file when you make it into an AVI, there will be quality loss of course. And most people won't have enough harddisk space to work with uncompressed files.
Fortunetaly, there is a much easier way to do it. And if I am correct in the way it works, there won't be any extra quality loss either. I think it works on all Quicktime files provided you have the latest version of Quicktime (actually you may not need latest but it is always best to have the latest version) and your Quicktime files work in the Quicktime that you have. It worked for me anyway although it may have the same problem with copyprotected audio that RAD has (haven't actually encountered such a file). If it does, you will have to do the rad trick. However note that when you do this, there could be quality loss of the audio.
I won't tell you directly since I believe you should read the existing pages before you post. I will tell you where to look http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm and give you one hint, there is more then one part which tells you what to do with .mov files that don't work. Maybe someone else will be bad enough to just post the link but I won't.
