  1. Hello!

I used WinDVD Creator 2 (which came with my computer) to burn a 50 minute dvd of a surprise party. The original miniDV footage was piped into WinDVD via Firewire and edited, then I picked the highest quality WinDVD setting (DVD - 1 Hour) for output to disc.

The resulting DVD looks awful! Pan shots look pixelated and shimmery, and static shots look like a 3rd generation vhs dupe.

The original capture file is just over 10 Gig, and WinDVD crunches that 50 minute file down to about 3 Gig.

So, anyone out there using WinDVD Creator 2 getting any better results than this? And, can I expect better output quality if I just go and buy Nero or some other software package?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  2. There are software packages that do the same thing, however most of them produce the same mediocre video.
I would suggest you try a dedicated encoder to make the mpeg-2 from your captured footage, and then author it to dvd in something that won't re-encode it.
