Guys, I ran my pc updates last week and service pack 2 was availible for me to download and install. After completing the update and install, I was unable to connect to the internet.

I noticed that the windows firewall was a little more aggresive so I disabled it, but I was still unable to connect to the internet I also noticed that there was a new network adapter, so I installed it to see if that worked, but it didn't.

So what I had to do is perform a system restore to get everything back to normal.+

Does anyone know what it is that I have to do? Is service pack 2 really worth it?

I'm running XP Home, Earthlink DSL, CNet PRO200WL PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter

If there is any information that I've left out, please let me know so that I may provide it.

Did you run the connection wizard?

Did you check for spyware before installing service pack 2?

There are some spyware programs that will hijack your connection if they are removed.

    G'day To all from Downunder.
I had the same problem. I installed XP Home With SP2 and then I could not open Netscape 7.2. I had Win XP Pro without SP2 before and never had a problem, but the PC went down, I did not have the WinXP disk and so on and so forth. Ended up with SP2 that I cannot uninstall. In my opinion SP2 sucks big time.

I don't have a problem with WinXP SP2 on a laptop running WinXP Pro.

The laptop wireless is working and no Internet connectivity problems there.

What I did last year on installing WinXP SP2 was clean re-format the HDD, re-install of WinXP Pro and then disable MS firewall/security and then install 3rd party firewall.

No problem ever since and working very well.

  7. I work in PC Service. Company policy on SP2 is do NOT install unless some particular feature is needed. 90% of customers are OK with it, but there have been several major problems and one or two catastrophic meltdowns. Not worth the hassle.

As always with M$ products, let someone else be the beta tester.

I've had Sp2 since it's release and no problems whatsoever.
