I want to buy a new capture card , i was thinking in this.....
How is the quality of the mpeg2 that it offers?
I have some options :
- Canopus ADVC 55
- Pinnacle av/dv 9
- Datavideo
- Pinnacle dv 500
Which is the best one? I like dv500 beacuse it can codify mpeg2 by hardware..... but that i want Any frames dropped , and good quality in the capture. The vcr that i have is Jvc-hrs7700..
Could somebody advise to me?

The Pinnacle DV500 is an older card (~5years+) intended for semi-realtime DV effects editing. It doesn't directly edit MPeg2 as far as I understand. Usually it is conrtrolled by Adobe Premiere. Make sure this matches what you want to do.
The other cards you list are also DV transcoders, not MPeg2.
Describe better what you intend to do. -

I'd recommned the Canopus ADVC or the Datavideo.
The ADVC-50 is better for long transfers with the locked audio feature

ok , if i choose a canopus , i will choose a advc 55 ..
But , why not the dv500? it is more complete... maybe a bit old ..
And the pinnacle av/dv 9 , only cost about 100 € , it is more available for me , how is the quality?
I leave my DC30 beacuse the video sometimes jumps with the TBC ON , so i want a card that this doesnt happen! -
ADVC-55 (per chart I linked) does not support locked audio. The ADVC-50 does.
I can't speak to the Pinnacle av/dv 9 but I would check reviews and user experiences with audio sync over long capture issues which are common to the MovieBox products.
The DV500 is not a currrent product on the Pinnacle site. Support stopped with the old Adobe Premiere 6 but it may still be controllable with Premiere Pro. I'd ask both Adobe and Pinnacle before I'd go that route. The DV500 does work with DV but not XP Direct Show. It is a Video for Windows card and relies on Pinnacle proprietary DV drivers.
I'd stay away from it and get a more modern solution that works with DirectX and DirectShow. -
And about Digital-Analog Video Converter DAC-100 DATAVIDEO i have read in this forum that it dropes frames with Jvc´s tbc ....

If you can get your hands on a used DC1000 card (also from Pinnacle), you may find that it meets your needs a little better than the DV500.
I just scooped one off eBay for $100 -- and it does everything the DV500 does, plus offers the ability to edit MPEG in real-time. Not just capture, but edit! (This is a feature that few products offer).
The capture quality is amazing, and I've yet to see a software solution that can offer a visually superior result (and the card captures to MPEG in realtime).
But it's important to note: the DC1000 has been discontinued by Pinnacle and is no longer supported. The drivers are easy enough to find on the internet (available for Win2000 and XP). Pinnacle still offers limited tech-support in their online forums, but you'll be pretty much on your own with this kit. -
well , finally , i got a new Dv500 DVD from ebay ! I will get it this week.
